I’m not positive that this is the right thread (though it’s definitely fiction), but today I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of my copy of the ninth book in the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon, “Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone”. Anyone else?

I’m glad that you posted in this thread crossfox because it helped me discover not one, but two, B&Bs that I hadn’t yet read (or at least I don’t think I had read the earlier one). There were a book or two that I’d already read – or actually listened to (including The Last Graduate) – or had on hold, and I added a couple to my wish list (or wait list or went ahead and borrowed one). I went through a brief catch up period recently when about 10 audiobooks came in for me over the course of 5 days, but now I’ve caught up and am able to go with whatever grabs me at the moment.

I’m glad that you continue to write the B&Bs because I do enjoy reading them and I definitely take some of the suggestions (though it depends a bit on how swamped I am at the moment).

Crossfox – Interesting that you mention rereading TNOTW. We’re going to be discussing it at a book group in January and I’m excited to reread it. I’ve read TWMF too and have been eagerly awaiting the third installment (though I’ve heard the plan is for 4 books now rather than 3 so that won’t be the end of the story). I read that there will be a third (and I believe last) in the Scholomance series, but that was just something I read somewhere on the internet.

Nice to have you back, crossfox! And, yes, Nextdoor is often a center of rudeness and complaints, but we recently had a very fun thread when someone found something underground in his yard and everyone was trying to figure out what it was. Apparently, it was the base of an old bread oven and someone who lived next door while it was there showed up and told the guy that.

It’s sad that it has come to this. Hopefully, these gatherings will be able to happen next year.

I just peeked at the blog page and realized that I hadn’t seen the one from May either. OOPS!

In any case, The Thursday Murder Club is the pick for one of my book clubs in September so I’m planning to read it, but I’m intentionally leaving it until closer to the time so I don’t forget all the details by the time we meet. I had also heard about The Final Girl Support Group, but it seemed maybe a tad too “horror-y” for me. But, maybe it’s not? I read most genres and I have read some things that might be considered horror, but I stay away from the more graphic/disturbing ones because I sleep better that way.

I also found it interesting reading the blog part today since you were talking about things opening up and being able to go maskless. And, just in the past few days, more mask mandates are being reinstated as numbers are going up again. Sigh.

And, speaking of masks – I wasn’t wearing one today, but I probably should have been because the smoke from the wildfires out west was particularly bad. It looks very hazy and smells like we’re having a campfire. 🙁

Oh no! So sorry to hear that you had to cancel your trip, but of course I understand why you made that decision. We missed my BIL’s wedding in March because we were not yet vaccinated, which was unfortunate. We’re going to visit them soon to meet his wife in person for the first time (we’ve met on Zoom), but it’s unfortunate that cases are going up again now that we’re going. At least all of us are fully vaccinated, so we’re hoping for the best (and won’t be interacting with as many people as you would have been in New Orleans).

I just saw that there was a new B&B from July 14. Yay! 🙂

I listened to The Inheritance Games a few months ago on someone’s recommendation and enjoyed it.

I also noted that you mentioned Lori Rader-Day’s work. Just yesterday, I was at a virtual book discussion with William Kent Krueger and he mentioned her new book, coming out in October, A Death at Greenway. It sounds intriguing. I’m not sure I was familiar with her work before, but now I’ve seen two mentions in two days from authors whose work I enjoy. Seems like I need to read something of hers. 😉

Sorry to hear about the water still in your basement, but as the co-chair of used book sales for my local Friends of the Library group, I appreciate that you donated a bunch to your library. We depend on donations. Though, we haven’t had a big sale in almost two years, so now is not the moment we need them the most (and they keep coming in and space is tight, which is a good problem as problems go). We are planning a big sale in October and hopefully nothing will derail that, just as I hope that you get to go to all your planned in person events.

Yay for the arrival of your Edgar Award. I hope to see it on a Zoom event!

Interesting that you mention that, StormeyTiger. Murderbot has been recommended to me a few times lately and I started listening to the first one last night. Good to know that more is on the way.

I finally got a chance to listen to The Russian Cage and really enjoyed it. I’ve been wondering about the Holy Russian Empire since hearing about it in the first book, so I was glad that we got to visit it along with Lizbeth in this one. I love Felicia in this book!

Glad to hear it. That’s what I’ve heard from a lot of people who had side effects from the vaccine – a day and maybe night of symptoms and then fine the next day.

Great news Charlaine! So glad to hear it.

I think it will still be a while until I can get it, but I’m hopeful that things are speeding up.
